Lack of experience

Poor location

Seth Godin wrote a very interesting post that caused me to ask myself the question that is the title to today’s post. Seth’s post was short. I hope that he does not mind that I copy it for you here:

The reason social media is so difficult for most organizations

It’s a process, not an event.

Dating is a process. So is losing weight, being a public company and building a brand.

On the other hand, putting up a trade show booth is an event. So are going public and having surgery.

Events are easier to manage, pay for and get excited about. Processes build results for the long haul.

I think entrepreneurship is about managing a process. I also think that most people like events better. As I think about this, I wonder if this is the key to the entrepreneurial mindset, being willing to manage processes? What do you think? Drop me a line on Twitter or at the Smarter Small Business Blog.

Shallie Bey
Smarter Small Business Blog
Follow me on Twitter

Today, she is introducing a series of posts that she has planned on the topic of project management for entrepreneurs.

It has long seemed to me that starting a business is a perfect example of project management. I am surprised that more people do not describe entrepreneurship as such. Of course, as Megan expresses her opinion on why you should “throw away the manual” we might get a glimpse why people who should be using project management don’t.

Go Megan Go!

He also has ideas on how to spread ideas.

This blip.tv clip shares his thoughts about the thinking that led ten of his books to becoming best sellers.

As baby boomer entrepreneurs, you and I are trying to build an asset that will have value and give us leverage. Seth says that the ultimate asset is a permission based asset. This is essentially an audience that has given you permission to talk with them and are looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

That may be an e-mail list. It might be a blog. It might be something that you or I or one of our friends might invent as a brand new form of communication.

If you want to play this game, you will want to listen to this clip from Seth.

I say listen because there appear to be some glitches in the recording. It was intended to be a video; however, many of the comments suggest that people could only hear the audio. That was the case for me too.

So, go listen already!
